Public Policy and Governance Degree Requirements

While studying Public Policy and Governance at StFX, you'll have the opportunity to choose from three degrees.

Honours with subsidiary

This degree requires students to complete 48 credits of core and designated courses in Public Policy and Governance as well as 24 credits in a subsidiary subject of your choice. This option offers the most in-depth experience in the PGOV program, as well as preferential funding for the fourth-year internship.

Please note that students currently in first year (starting in September 2022 or January 2023) who decide to complete the Honours with Subsidiary in Public Policy and Governance must take PGOV 303 (Research Methods in Public Policy and Governance / Quantitative Research Methods) and PGOV 304 (Research Design). Students completing the Honours with Subsidiary who are currently in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year must complete PGOV 303 or 304.

Major or Joint Major

Students may elect to complete a Major or a Joint Major in Public Policy and Governance. This requires 36 credits in core and designated courses in Public Policy and Governance. Students will also complete either another major or a minor as part of the degree.

Other Options

Students majoring in another subject can complete a Public Policy and Governance minor, subsidiary, or pair.
