Kirsten Newman, a graduating Master’s of Adult Education student, has won the cost of her X-Ring thanks to her participation in an annual survey for senior students that looks at student satisfaction and experience. All those who participate are eligible for a prize draw to win the cost of their X-Ring.
The survey is administered by the Academic Vice-President and Provost’s office and the Office of Institutional Analysis. It collects data on all aspects of the student experience from academics to extracurriculars from a senior student perspective.
“I believe I speak for many in my cohort when I say that StFX has created something truly special,” says Ms. Newman, of Leduc, Alberta. “As graduates, we wear our rings with pride and carry forward a commitment to bloom where we are planted, doing what we can to make our corner of the world a little brighter. It was truly a privilege to receive my master’s education at StFX.”
Ms. Newman, who completed the online master’s program, says she wasn’t sure what to expect and felt nervous about the technology when she started. While there was a learning curve at first, she says the support was incredible and she quickly became comfortable navigating the virtual environment. “All of our professors were humble, kind, and deeply supportive.”
She says her cohort engaged deeply with ideas of social justice, community development, critical pedagogy, and transformative learning. “Many classes were unexpectedly emotional, not because of the workload, but because the content was so powerful and moving,” she notes.
