External Review of Sexual Violence Policy 2024
St. Francis Xavier University is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive campus community. As part of this commitment, the University engaged Watershed Legal Projects to conduct an independent external review of our policies, practices, and campus culture related to sexual violence.
This review, conducted between late 2023 and mid-2024, involved extensive consultations with students, staff, faculty, and administrators, as well as a review of case files, policies, and procedures. The independent review panel examined areas such as:
- Progress made since the 2019 review and implementation of recommendations,
- Barriers to disclosure and reporting of sexual violence,
- Residence life and campus traditions,
- Athletics culture and equity, and
- The Sexual Violence Policy and related practices.
The resulting report provides observations, identifies strengths, and makes recommendations for further progress. It reflects the voices of many members of our community and highlights both the positive steps taken to date and the ongoing work needed to ensure a safer and more inclusive environment for all.
External Review of Sexual Violence Policy 2024: Action Plan Update (April 2025)
Following the release of the Independent Review Report, the recommendations were shared with students, faculty, staff, and other key stakeholders. Through this collaborative process, StFX developed a campus-wide Action Plan that outlines concrete steps to address the recommendations and strengthen our collective response to sexual violence.
