US Direct Loans Program
St. Francis Xavier University is currently undergoing a recertification process with the U.S. Department of Education to maintain its eligibility as a Title IV institution in the Federal Student Aid (FSA) program. At the same time, the university is reviewing its future participation in the U.S. Federal Student Aid program. As a result, there is currently some uncertainty regarding the availability of U.S. Federal Student Aid funding for students studying at StFX beginning in the 2026–27 academic year.
Should the University decide not to continue participating in the Federal Student Aid program, StFX intends to maintain its Title IV-eligible status, allowing students to continue accessing alternative U.S. education financing options, including private lenders such as Sallie Mae and state-based lenders such as FAME (Finance Authority of Maine) and VSAC (Vermont Student Assistance Corporation). StFX would also continue to report enrolment information to the U.S. Department of Education through the National Student Loan Data System, enabling students to maintain the in-school status of eligible federal loans.
We understand that this uncertainty may be concerning and are committed to providing updates as more information becomes available. Students who may be affected are encouraged to monitor this page regularly for the latest information.
Sallie Mae Student Loan Program
Students may obtain funding through Sallie Mae Student Loans. Information on this funding can be obtained through https://www.salliemae.com/student-loans/. The school ID for StFX is 00668100.
