I write to provide an update following the minor fire in the Keating Centre earlier this week.

The fire damaged an electrical box that powers the systems responsible for making and maintaining the ice. As a result, unfortunately, the ice surfaces in both the main and auxiliary arenas at the Keating Centre will need to be removed until further notice, while the damaged system is replaced. The fire was contained to the ice plant room, and the building suffered no other damage.
 

We expect there will be no ice for the foreseeable future, but we will provide updates when we know more.
 

We recognize that this will affect many members of the StFX community, the Town and County of Antigonish, and the many individuals, teams and organizations who use and rent the Keating Centre ice surfaces. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and disruption this will cause. The situation and resulting impact are the result of circumstances beyond our control, and we are working to address the issue as quickly as possible.
 

The StFX Ancillary Services team will communicate directly with individuals, internally and externally, who have rented ice to discuss the impact on their bookings and next steps.

Regarding the near-term varsity hockey situation, StFX Athletics is working with the StFX Ancillary Services department and our counterparts at various AUS hockey schools to relocate our scheduled home games to alternate venues in the local region. Some home game dates may change, based upon ice availability. The X-Men Hockey games scheduled for Friday, October 9th and Saturday, October 10th will be played at the Antigonish Arena, with game times of 7:30 pm on both evenings. The X-Men Hockey game on Saturday, October 17th vs Acadia will also be played at the Antigonish Arena at 7:30 pm. No other X-Men or X-Women Hockey game dates have been rescheduled to date.The updated X-Men and X-Women schedules can be found at the links below and venue locations will be included in each game’s Details section.

Thank you to the Antigonish Fire Department for their quick response to the Centre. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this situation. We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
