Born in Kingston, Ontario, Dr. Carson Halliwell completed a Diploma in Sport and Leisure Management at Holland College and a Bachelor of Kinesiology at Acadia University before pursuing graduate training at Dalhousie University, where he earned an MSc in Rehabilitation Research and a PhD in Health from the School of Physiotherapy. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Medicine at the Université de Sherbrooke. Over the past year, Dr. Halliwell has served as a Research Scientist with Dalhousie’s Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine team and is adjunct faculty with the School of Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University. Research

Dr. Halliwell’s research focuses on musculoskeletal health, osteoarthritis, frailty, and joint preservation. His work is guided by the 3M framework: Mobility, Movement, and Medicine, with the goal of improving musculoskeletal health and reducing frailty across the lifespan. His research integrates biomechanics, imaging technologies, and epidemiological approaches to understand how gait, physical activity, and other modifiable factors influence aging and disease progression in adults with joint conditions. Spanning laboratory and hospital settings, his work is conducted in close collaboration with clinicians, ultimately aiming to improve clinical decision-making, preserve joint health, and support lifelong mobility.
