Joselyne Mukantwari
Dr. Joselyne Mukantwari is an Assistant Professor in the Rankin School of Nursing at St. Francis Xavier University. She is a registered nurse with a diverse background as an educator and a scholar in perioperative nursing. She completed her PhD in Nursing at Western University in Canada in 2025, focusing on how organizational culture influences the professional development, mentorship experiences, and long-term growth of perioperative nurses. Dr. Mukantwari holds an MSN with a specialization in Perioperative Nursing, which she obtained in 2017, and a BScN, awarded in 2011, from the University of Rwanda.
With over 20 years of nursing experience, Dr. Mukantwari has more than a decade of teaching experience at both Canadian and international institutions. She has taught and coordinated a variety of perioperative courses, including Essentials of Perioperative Nursing, Intraoperative Nursing, Anesthesia and Post-Anesthesia Care, Clinical Assessments, Nursing Research Methods, and Global Health.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Mukantwari has served as a Partnerships Coordinator at the University of Rwanda School of Nursing and Midwifery. In this role, she facilitated international collaborations and supported capacity-building initiatives. Her professional practice as a registered nurse in Canada included direct care in both a university hospital and community settings, enriching her teaching and research with real-world clinical experience.
Her research program aims to advance community-engaged, interdisciplinary, and policy-relevant scholarship that:
- Examines social, clinical, and organizational factors influencing healthcare outcomes;
- Strengthens nursing education, working conditions, mentorship, and continuous professional development
- Address health care disparities and unmet needs for vulnerable populations through participatory approaches that promote safe digital navigation, reproductive life planning, and better health outcomes.
