The StFX Department of Music warmly invites you for a night of live jazz with bassist JIM VIVIAN, accompanied by members of the StFX Music faculty.

Jim has been at the forefront of music-making in Canada for nearly 40 years, and has performed and/or recorded with many of Canada’s great jazz artists. Originally from Newfoundland, he moved to Toronto in 1979 to pursue classical bass studies before shifting focus toward jazz and improvised music.

Between 1989 and 2002, he was the bassist for 11 jazz ensembles under the "Sound of Toronto Jazz" Concert Series at the Ontario Science Centre.

With an extensive history in performance, Jim holds long-standing associations with musicians worldwide, appearing on over 130 recordings (34 of which have been nominated for Juno awards in as many years). He has also performed and recorded with internationally-esteemed artists such as John Abercrombie, Jerry Bergonzi, Mick Goodrick, David Leibman, John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler, and Norma Winstone.

And, after 40 years on the mainland, Jim is very happy to be back home in St. John’s!
