The StFX Department of Music presents Toronto-born electric bassist Rich Brown. Rich is one of Canada’s most versatile and in-demand musicians. A composer, producer, bandleader, educator, and broadcaster, he has released four acclaimed albums as a leader, including Between Heaviness & Here and the JUNO-nominated Abeng. His groundbreaking new album, NYAEBA, is set for release this month.
Rich has performed with artists such as Vijay Iyer, Steve Coleman, Angélique Kidjo, Kurt Elling, Zap Mama, Hermeto Pascoal, Omar, David Clayton-Thomas, and James Blood Ulmer. He also leads two groups: rinsethealgorithm and The Abeng, and is a member of the Juno award-winning Jeremy Ledbetter Trio.
As an educator, Rich was a core faculty member at Scott’s Bass Lessons, creator of the YouTube channel The Brown’stone, and former Associate Professor at Humber College and the University of Toronto. He also hosts New Origins on JazzFM91 every Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST.
Joining Rich on stage is StFX Music faculty: Carolyn Curry, vocals; Kenji Omae, saxophone; Jeff Johnston, piano; and Anthony Michelli, drums.
