The StFX Department of Music presents Martin Zenker in concert with the StFX Jazz Nonet+1.  

Martin Zenker is a German jazz bassist, composer, and educator with an international profile. He has performed worldwide with jazz legends such as Jimmy Cobb, Billy Hart, Ed Thigpen, Steve Grossman, Jim Snidero, Jesse Davis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Eartha Kitt, James Moody, and Herb Geller. As a bandleader, he has recorded with ensembles including Seven Minds, UGETSU, and Bass n Bass.

In addition to his performing career, Zenker is a leading figure in jazz education: he has taught in South Korea, South Africa, and Germany, and was instrumental in establishing the first jazz program in Mongolia, for which he received national recognition and an honorary professorship. Since 2021, he has served on the board of the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ), connecting cultures and strengthening jazz education worldwide. 

Jazz Nonet students, with director Paul Tynan (trumpet), will perform alongside Zenker, including: Adam Dalton (alto/flute), Matthew Patstone (tenor/clarinet), Alex Mills (bari), Carter Todd (trumpet), Matthew Davidson (trombone), Max Cole (guitar), Sam Goodine (piano), Izzy Leveille (bass), and Vince Dizon on drums.
