International Travel for Faculty, Staff & Students

International Travel for Faculty, Staff & Students

Students: Are you travelling on a university-related trip outside of Canada?

Faculty and Staff: Are you organizing university-related travel outside of Canada that includes students?

You should know that all international travel, involving students, MUST be approved by the StFX International Travel Assessment Committee (ITAC).

StFX's International Travel And Safety Policy

StFX's International Travel and Safety Policy was developed to encourage the safe travel of our students. The policy mandates that international travel involving students, must be approved by the International Travel Assessment Committee.  In the event of an international emergency, the university will be able to contact the student and give assistance where required. When the student is travelling independently, they apply for travel approval.  When a StFX employee or a student group leader is organizing travel for students, the employee or student leader will apply for approval on behalf of the students in the group.

Travel approval is only required for student international travel associated with university business, such as attendance at conferences, internationally based research, and international travel associated with academic programs. Students travelling abroad through a program organized by an outside group are required to apply for ITAC travel approval if they are receiving funding support from StFX.

This policy requires those planning international travel, involving students, to apply for approval from ITAC a minimum of 45 days before travel.   Approval will be granted or denied within 7 - 14 days after the application is submitted.
