Assistive Technology

Assistive technology for students with disabilities encompasses tools, equipment, or systems that support individuals with physical, sensory, cognitive, or learning challenges in accessing the curriculum and engaging in educational activities. These technologies are intended to eliminate barriers to learning and foster greater independence.

Read&Write

Read & Write is a literacy support tool that offers learners help with everyday tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, researching assignments, and proofing written work. There is also a speech to text function. It is free for all StFX students and can be accessed at any time by downloading the software using these instructions. This tool can be used during tests and exams provided your documentation supports this accommodation. 

Genio Notes

Genio notes is an assistive note-taking software designed to help students capture, organize, and review lecture content more effectively. It transforms passive listening into an active learning process by integrating audio recordings with interactive note-taking tools.  Students can import slides, add comments, organize class content, and create quizzes using this software.  Genio Notes costs $204.00 for a one-year subscription.  If eligible students are able to use the CSG-DSE to purchase this product.  For more information, please visit their website here.

Grammarly

Grammarly is a digital writing assistant powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that helps users improve their writing by checking for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, engagement, and tone. It works in real time and is widely used by students, professionals, and anyone looking to enhance the quality of their writing.
