Biography

María Soledad Paz-Mackay obtained her Ph.D. in Spanish (Contemporary Latin American Literature) from the University of Ottawa where she also completed her MA. Her doctoral dissertation analyses the fictional representation of History and Collective Memory in four Argentinean novels, published between 1995 and 2002, which reflects on topics related to the last dictatorship.

Research

Dr. Paz-Mackay’s research focuses on XX and XXI Century Latin-American and Argentinean Literature and Cinema. Her scholarly interests cover a broad range of topics, including Human Rights and Literature, Memory and Identity, and Cultural Production of the Children of the Disappeared.

In recent years, Dr. Paz-Mackay has researched films and documentaries from the Southern Cone region and published articles and book chapters in these areas.

She is part of a research team with Dr. Argelia Gonzalez Hurtado (St. Mary’s College of Maryland), which received an Insight Development Grant awarded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council on the project titled “Rediscovering Rural Landscape and Visualizing Emerging Identities in 21st Century Argentinean and Mexican Cinema.”
