Biography

Kimberley received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2007, and in 2023, she graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University with a Master’s in Adult Education. Although over the course of her career, Kimberley feels fortunate to have gained experience in various specialties of nursing, her greatest passion is mental health and substance use nursing and providing leadership and education.

After many years with Health PEI, in 2019, Kimberley accepted a position with the Northern Health Authority in Northern British Columbia, as a Resource Nurse for Mental Health and Substance Use.  In this role, Kimberley became increasingly aware of how culturally relevant pedagogy can greatly influence health equity for Canadians, especially for those in marginalized populations.

Kimberley is now employed with Indigenous Services Canada, as an education specialist. Within this role, Kimberley has recently created new clinical practical guidelines for the nurses employed within Indigenous communities in Canada, namely First Nations, Metis, and Inuit. Presently, Kimberley and her team are developing an online learning management system, which will provide optimal learning for health care professionals across Canada.  Most recently, Kimberley has completed research on cultural competency and its effects on health equity and will be incorporating her findings into the first online learning module: Key Concepts of Indigenous Cultural Competency in a Clinical Context. Also, Kimberley has been employed on a part-time basis with Saint Francis Xavier University since September 2023.
