Biography

William Rogers is a Nova Scotia artist working in oil, watercolor and printmaking. Bill is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC) and is currently the President. He is also a signature member of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA) and the Société Canadienne de l’Aquarelle (SCA). The effects of light and color dominate his award winning work, exhibited with major watercolor societies in Canada and the USA. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the A. J. Casson Medal for the best painting in the CSPWC Open Water Exhibition at the Leighton Centre, Calgary in 2009.

Horses are a recurring theme in his work, his love for them stemming from a twenty year period of owning and working with them. He also paints and draws the human figure from a live model twice a week. Plein-air painting is a big component of his landscape work, and his travels always include time for this work. He has participated in the juried plein air events Carmel Art Festival in Carmel CA, Plein-Air Easton in Easton MD, Calloway Gardens Plein Air in Pine Mountain GA, and Plein Air Vermont in Bennington VT.

Bill lives with his wife Joanne (Faculty of Nursing) in the town of Antigonish, where he maintains a working studio. He exhibits principally at Lyghtesome Gallery in Antigonish and also in many other galleries in Eastern Canada and the US. He teaches Art part-time at StFX University and conducts painting workshops for various art groups at home and abroad.
