Biography

Adam Tragakis received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia. After spending three years working as a sculptor's assistant in Toronto he moved back to his hometown of Antigonish to devote his time to oil painting. He has shown his work in galleries in Vancouver, Toronto and the United States.

Adam's work combines a passion for history and a love of the human form.

“My work mostly revolves around the elusive and ephemeral nature of life - what the Japanese term ‘mono no aware’ or ‘the pathos of things’, essentially impermanence. I have a deep-rooted fascination with archaeology. I am interested in the fleetingness of human life and the endurance of the things that we create, mortality vs. Immortality; how we infer meaning from human artifacts and how these objects help us to understand existence, and simultaneously are beyond interpretation.”
