Program Overview:

About Engineering

Engineering is a creative and multidisciplinary endeavour that exemplifies human ingenuity at its best. Here at StFX, the history of humans and the history of engineering are one and the same, and the dedicated Engineering faculty have structured the program around that very idea. Much of the history of people is, in effect, the history of engineering, as our creative utilization of resources remains strictly interwoven with our day-to-day lives. Everything we do, touch, use, or imagine has or will require the expertise of an engineer…and that could be YOU!

Why Study Engineering at StFX?

At StFX, we have experienced faculty members who are all professional engineers and who will work with you both inside and outside of the classroom and laboratory. Our class sizes are similar to those you experienced in high school and so the transition to StFX will be uncomplicated. We believe in a collaborative atmosphere and have strong connections with other science departments and areas across campus so we all work together as a team. This results in our students being highly successful as they transition to Dalhousie to complete their studies and as they enter their careers.

Program Options

StFX provides three distinct options for you to earn your Diploma in Engineering. This can be done in 2, 3, or 4 years. As you complete the Diploma at StFX, you are eligible to apply for a seat at Dalhousie University where you can complete your Bachelor of Engineering degree. Your degree completion at other institutions is also possible.

Diploma in Engineering (2 years)

Earn your Diploma in 2 years with the option of completing your Bachelor of Engineering degree at Dalhousie or other institutions.

NEW: Bachelor of Science with Diploma in Engineering (3 years)

Combine your Diploma in Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in a science area (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Earth and Environmental Sciences). This program offers the opportunity to explore other science and arts areas normally not available in the regular 2-year Diploma program. It allows for a broadening of your knowledge base, or to focus and have a concentration in one area of study. This pathway will support those who have an interest in Engineering but want to keep other pathways open.
