Biography

Dr. Tom Mahaffey is a Professor in the Department of Marketing and Enterprise Systems. He has taught courses in marketing, strategic management, and ethics and his work was selected for the University’s Outstanding Teaching Award.

Dr. Mahaffey’s background is in the marketing of services – most recently in retail pharmacy including working conditions, expanded scope of practice, and the reduction of medication errors. He enjoys collaborative research and considers himself fortunate to have been able to work with several colleagues within the School, including Drs. Boyle, Hynes, MacAulay, and Morrison.

Dr. Mahaffey is the co-author of two textbooks. His peer-reviewed research has been presented nationally and internationally and selected for various awards. Research funding includes grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation, and the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy Innovation.

Professionally, Dr. Mahaffey is the president of Xavier Group, Inc., which provides consulting and training services to organizations across Canada and overseas. Services include executive education and the development of strategic marketing plans. He has also served on several Boards of Directors. Including terms as the President of the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists (NSCP), Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), and Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Bergengren Credit Union.
