Professor Valerie Bernard was educated in philosophy at the University of Toronto (PhD) and the University of New Brunswick (BA). She specializes in continental European philosophy, particularly Jean-Paul Sartre, and philosophy of mind/perception. She has taught philosophy at the University of Toronto and the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton. Her primary teaching interests lie in the history of philosophy, particularly 17^th and 18^th century philosophy of perception, Kant and existentialism.
