Introduction to Structured Searching for Systematic, Scoping and Other Comprehensive Reviews of the Literature
This workshop (part 1 and part 2) is for anyone preparing to do a comprehensive review of the literature, where a structured, objective approach to searching is important. This workshop will discuss how text mining and generative AI tools could assist with the development of a search strategy. Although this workshop will not only be for health sciences-related projects, the database used for demonstrations in Part 1 will be a health science-focused database (Ovid MEDLINE).
For those participants preparing to do a knowledge synthesis project, such as a systematic or scoping review, please review the content found in this online module: “Planning Your Knowledge Synthesis Review,” before attending the session.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the key differences between systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and literature reviews
- Turn a research question into a searchable question
- Identify different databases for a review
- Describe how text-mining and generative AI tools could assist with search strategy development
- Practice using an objective, structured method for developing search strategies using Ovid MEDLINE
