Mulroney Institute of Government

The Mulroney Institute of Government was publicly launched on October 26th, 2016.  The Institute will bring together key research capabilities in areas related to public policy, governance and leadership from across StFX.

New research themes, such as Canada-US Relations, Climate Change and the Environment, and Womens’ Leadership for Global Change have been identified as areas for development of new research capacity associated with the Institute.

Irving Shipbuilding Inc. has helped get the research program of the Mulroney Institute of Government underway with a commitment of $1M over 5 years to support two new research chairs in arctic marine security policy.

StFX and Irving Shipbuilding Inc. jointly announced that Dr. Adam Lajeunesse has been appointed as the Irving Shipbuilding Chair in Arctic Marine Security Policy and Dr. Karl Skogstad has been appointed as the Irving Shipbuilding Chair in Marine Security Economics.  In their new positions, Drs. Lajeunesse and Skogstad will work together to research Canada’s role in global marine security issues with a focus on the Arctic region, and will contribute to strengthening the marine industry in Canada.  Irving Shipbuilding is providing the funding for the two Irving Shipbuilding Chair positions as part of its Value Proposition commitments under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) – Canada’s 30-year plan to renew the fleets of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard.
