LPN, Accelerated, and Post RN Nursing Admissions Info

Cape Breton University and St. Francis Xavier University have partnered on a pathway for qualified LPNs to apply to BScN.

Deadline: All applications and supporting documents must be received by February 1.   

Requirements:

  • Two year Diploma from Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). Graduated 2008 or later.
  • Minimum 75% overall average in both years of the diploma program.
  • Total of 1800 hours of work experience within the last two years (require a letter of verification from employer)
  • Current LPN License

BSc in Nursing - Accelerated 2 year option 

The Accelerated 2 year option has a January 2020 start date and is available to university transfer applicants.  

**NEW** Deadline: All applications and supporting documents must be received by SEPTEMBER 16, 2019.  Any applications or documents received after this date will not be reviewed for admissions.

Requirements:

Applicants must have the following 30 credits prior to admission:

Core Courses:

  • 6cr Human Anatomy and Human Physiology (Min 3cr each of Anatomy and Physiology) - Must have a lab component (Virtual labs are accepted)
  • 3cr Microbiology
  • 3cr English
  • 3cr Statistics
  • 15 credits of open electives
  • Successful completion of CASPer, Click HERE for more details about CASPer. 
  • Minimum grade of 65% in each of the core courses listed above, and an overall average of 70% in the combined 30 university credits.

Please note: Core courses cannot be more than 10 years old. All 30 credits must be completed before the September 16 deadline. Admission to this program is competitive and possession of the minimum requirements does not ensure acceptance into the program.

Admission Requirements

Minimum requirements are:

  • A current RN registration
  • One-year clinical experience
  • High school certification. Applicants are considered if they have credit for five Grade XII university preparatory subjects (English, Mathematics, Chemistry, another science and one other subject), with no mark below 50 and a minimum average of 60.

Meeting published minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
