Given the dynamic situation, we are updating our processes as efficiently as possible. Please bookmark this page as the place to visit should you have any questions.     + Is StFX adjusting its admissions policies as a result of COVID-19?

    Regular admissions policies will be maintained.  StFX recognizes that students have not completed a standard grade 12 year and that learning and engagement levels have been different.  StFX will, where possible, provide flexibility on admissions policies in order to support student success and preparedness for university. If you are concerned that, because of the impact of COVID-19, you may no longer meet admissions requirements please email to discuss your particular situation.

    + My school has changed to a credit and enrolled grading scheme. How will this impact my final admissions decision?

    StFX will accept courses with a grade of CR (Credit) as fulfilment of admission requirements.

    Students who receive a grade of ENR (Enrolled) will be required to complete upgrading coursework in order to satisfy admission requirements.

    To support students needing to complete upgrading courses, StFX is providing online preparation courses in English – Writing for Academic Purposes and Math – Math Prep Pre-Calculus and Math Prep Professional Programs free of charge.  Please visit our website for information on these courses, including how register for them.

    Students who earn a grade of pass in the English preparation course will be able to use the course towards fulfillment of the English pre-requisite admission requirements.

    Students who complete the Math Pre-Calculus prep course will be able to use this course as fulfillment of the Math admission requirements if they write the exam and achieve a grade of 65% in the course.

    + My school has changed to a pass/fail grading scheme. How will these grades be used for final admissions decisions?

    StFX will accept grade of P (Pass) as fulfillment of admission requirements.

    + I need to submit a final transcript but the university is closed. How do I do this?

    Students should submit all required documents electronically, if possible, to

    Documents can be sent in via mail; however, due to closures and restrictions on campus, mail services may be delayed.

    StFX continues to receive electronic transcripts for students from NS who provided their provincial ID number at the time of application.

    + I need to submit a transcript by my school is closed. What can I do?

    StFX is accepting unofficial transcripts to support and evaluate admissions.   Students can send unofficial transcripts to

    + I have submitted my final transcript, what happens next?

    Once StFX receives your final transcript, we will contact you to let you know it has been received and to confirm if the conditions of your acceptance have been met.

    + Can I defer my admission?

    StFX recognizes that after being admitted some applicants experience circumstances that may warrant a request to defer admission. If you are unable to start in September, you may be eligible to defer your acceptance, on a one-time basis, to January 2021 or September 2021.  To inquire about a deferral of admission, please contact

    + Can I take courses during the spring/summer to prepare for my studies at StFX in the Fall?

    Students will be eligible to take up to 6 credit hours of courses at StFX, or other post-secondary institutions, during the spring/summer and receive transfer credits if StFX can offer an equivalency.

    Students are advised to consult with an academic advisor prior to registering for the course to see if StFX will accept the course and how it will work towards their program.

    StFX will assess these courses upon receipt of a final transcript and will transfer courses that are acceptable to StFX.  The completion of these courses will have no impact on your admission decision and will not impact scholarship eligibility.

    + Will StFX have classes in the upcoming semesters?

    StFX has moved Spring and Summer courses online, and is currently planning for classes for September 2020.

    + I’m a high school student with an offer of admission from StFX. Will my admission be affected by COVID-19?

    All Provincial Departments of Education have not yet communicated their plans with respect to final transcripts for graduating students.  When we have more information from each province, we will communicate with admitted students and address any concerns they may have regarding their offer of admission.  All conditional offers of admission made to students remain valid.

    + I’m a post-secondary/transfer student with an offer of admission from StFX. Will my admission be affected by COVID-19?

    Each Post-Secondary institution is determining the end-of-term grading options available to their students. StFX will accept adjusted assessment methods including a Pass/Fail or Credit/No Credit option. These grading options will be accepted for both conditional offer requirements and transfer credit assessment.  All conditional offers of admission made to students remain valid.

    + I need to submit documents to support my application for admission or to meet my offer conditions. How can I do that?

    At this time, please submit unofficial documents electronically to

    StFX is still receiving and sending mail, however, electronic methods are preferred.

    Under normal circumstances, to meet your conditional offer requirements final official transcripts must be submitted following completion of current studies.  However, we recognize that COVID-19 has created a disruption to normal protocols. If you are unable to obtain an official copy when your final marks are available, unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

    + What are the deadlines to submit final transcripts?

    Students beginning their studies in September are requested to submit final transcripts by July 10, 2020. Where this is not possible, or where a student’s course is still in progress at this time, please contact We will be as accommodating as possible given this unprecedented time.

    + When will I know what transfer credits I will receive?

    Transfer credits continue to be assessed on an ongoing basis. When final IB scores, AP scores, or post-secondary final marks are available, transfer credit assessments will be completed and students notified of the results. Students who receive a Pass rather than a numerical, letter, or GPA scale grade will be eligible for transfer credit assessment.

    + I have a conditional offer of admission, do I still need to meet the requirements of that offer?

    Students are expected to meet the conditions of admission as outlined in their offer letter. We anticipate most students will be able to complete coursework and provide final marks or scores required for admission. StFX will be flexible on how those marks are submitted and the dates they are expected to be submitted by.

    + I obtained a lower mark than I anticipated, will StFX waive the minimum 65% grade requirement for individual courses?

    Students who receive a mark less than 65% will need to complete academic upgrading through their home school board, or the many available online options. For recommended options on obtaining new course credits or upgrading existing ones, please contact Please make sure you contact us before registering in a course to ensure it meets our requirements and will support your application.

    + What else do I need to do?

    Students who have received an offer of admission are encouraged to pay their $100 confirmation fee if they have not done so already. The link to complete payment can be found in your offer of admission letter. Once that payment is received, University Housing will contact you regarding an offer to Residence.

    + Can I still apply for admission?

    Yes! StFX Admissions staff are working from home and able to receive applications submitted online. We can access high school transcripts for students from Nova Scotia electronically, and students can submit their transcripts and supporting documentation to To submit a transcript, a pdf document, or screen capture are acceptable.

    + I received a major scholarship and/or a National Entrance award. Can I defer my scholarship

    National entrance awards, scholarships awarded to students with a scholarship average of 85% or above based on first semester grade 12 grades, can be deferred to January 2021 at half the value or to September 2021 at full value.

    Major scholarships (including Schwartz, PGOV, and Deveau), scholarships awarded to students based on competitive application, can be deferred to January 2021 at half the value.

    Major scholarships (including Schwartz, PGOV, and Deveau) cannot be deferred beyond January 1, 2021.

    + How will deferring my scholarship impact renewability?

    Students who defer scholarships to January 2021 will be eligible to renew their scholarships based on their academic performance in a minimum of 15 credits in the Winter 2021 term. Students will be eligible to renew their scholarship at full value for the 2021-22 academic year if eligibility criteria is met.

    Regular scholarship renewal polices will be in effect for those students who defer scholarships to September 2021.

    Prospective Students - Residence

    + What happens if I have applied for residence 2020-21, but my program/course is no longer offered in person due to COVID-19 precautions?

    University Housing will provide additional information regarding your residence application should courses be offered online and not on campus for a portion of the 2020-21 year. Please note that StFX is following all Public Health guidelines with regard to in-person meetings and gatherings, and will make decisions in this regard in accordance with the direction of health officials. Our intention at this point is to offer courses on-campus should we be allowed to do so.

    + Will I receive my $400 deposit back if residence does not open as scheduled?

    Your deposit remains valid, and will stay in full within your account until residence reopens.

    + If classes begin online in September, will the residence and meal plan fees be adjusted to reflect moving into residence later?

    At this point we have no information regarding fee structures should residence not open as scheduled in September. Should this arise, the StFX Board of Governors will review these fees, and we will share a decision with you as soon as possible.

    +  If I am unable to attend the StFX fall term due to COVID-19 precautions, can I defer my residence offer?

    Residence offers may be deferred for up to one year.

    + Will I lose my residence assignment if campus does not open as scheduled in September?

    All residence assignments will remain the same for the upcoming school year, even if there is a delayed opening.

    + What personal protective equipment will be required if living on campus? Will the University assist with providing any PPE?

    StFX treats the health, safety and wellbeing of our students as our top priority. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have complied with all Public Health guidelines and you can rest assured that we will continue to do so, including any future guidelines related to PPW.

    + How does social distancing work if I’m sharing a room in residence?

    StFX treats the health, safety and wellbeing of our students as our top priority. Should social distancing guidelines require accommodations to our room arrangements, we will make adjustments as necessary. Please rest assured we have been following, and will continue to follow, all follow Public Health guidelines and protocols.

    + What will be the new cleaning protocols for residence, common areas and washrooms?

    In consultation with Public Health, StFX has implemented strict guidelines and protocols that include increased cleaning and disinfecting procedures for all campus areas. Your health, safety, and wellbeing is our top priority!

    + I am an International student, can I stay/remain on campus if classes are scheduled to be only online in September?

    International students can remain on campus in their current living arrangements. Appropriate fees will be applied directly to the student’s financial services account.

    + I have nowhere to go, can I stay on campus if only online courses are offered starting in September?

    StFX campus is currently closed to the public. Please contact regarding accommodation inquiries.

    + I’m an IB student, how will I be awarded my Diploma or Certificates?

    Students will receive final grades that include their coursework as well as predicted grades. StFX will accept these marks once available.
