Keeping You Informed

As a parent/guardian of a StFX student, we know you may have many questions about what this academic year will look like, including the steps we are taking to ensure your health and safety on campus, and how the quality of the StFX university experience may be impacted.

This page is dedicated to you. Please sign up to receive regular updates from the campus by entering your email address in the sign up space provided. Also, if you have further questions, please reach out to us at

StFX is welcoming students back to campus with a mixed-method approach to academic delivery. This means that many of the classes will be offered face-to-face, with some of the classes offered online.

Regardless of in-person or onlie delivery, you can count on us to deliver these three things:

The health and wellbeing of the StFX community is our top priority. Our plans for reopening campus have been developed in conjunction with Public Health officials, including establishing (and enforcing) rules that adhere to the strictest guidelines for social distancing, group gatherings, and enhanced cleaning protocols. We are taking the time to ensure our classrooms, residences, meal hall, etc., are prepared to follow the guidelines put forth by Public Health. Note this also includes being prepared for the potential of future cases of COVID-19 within the community.

Antigonish is a small, university-town located in rural Nova Scotia. By its geographically remote nature, it provides a natural advantage to urban centres. Not to mention that Antigonish, although small, has all of the amenities of a big city – including one of the best hospitals in the province.

When your student comes to campus, you can rest assured it will be a safe environment.

Most classes will be delivered in a safe, face-to-face environment. However, in the event that the advice from public health officials prevent in-person course delivery, students can still expect an outstanding teaching and learning experience. StFX’s Online Preparedness Task Force has invested much time and energy in the support of faculty so we will be able to deliver our courses in a form that replicates the traditional StFX classroom experience to the extent possible. There is also ongoing work related to transposing the ‘outside the classroom’ experience that happens here.

Whether in-person or online, we will be ready to deliver a high-quality StFX experience.

Community life is the glue that holds a StFX experience together. Regardless of delivery, you can rest assured that this community life will still be part of your experience. We have plenty of exciting initiatives to keep these communities strong, even if from a distance (if necessar)! We encourage students to get involved -- starting today. For example, Webinar Wednesdays is an opportunity to tune-in online (3:00 PM Atlantic Time, every Wednesday on StFX University Facebook page) and interact with StFX perosnalities. Learn about the latest updates, and also have some fun during these interactive sessions.

We appreciate there are many questions and remain committed to getting you the answers you need as soon as possible. Sign up for the Parents’ News email box (above) or contact us directly using
