National Entrance Scholarship Program

StFX is founded on the values of academic excellence, leadership, and service to others. The StFX National Entrance Scholarship Program reflects these qualities by recognizing students’ achievements and assisting them financially in their efforts to obtain a quality education.

Scholarship Value Eligibility Details
Entrance Scholarship $5,000 85.0% - 89.9% average* Guaranteed to all applicants with an average of 85% or higher, based on Grade 12 December exams or first semester Grade 12 marks. Renewable for four years at $1,250 per year. 
Entrance Scholarship $7,000 90.0% - 93.9% average* Guaranteed to all applicants with an average of 90% or higher, based on Grade 12 December exams or first semester Grade 12 marks. Renewable for four years at $1,750 per year.
Merit Scholarship $12,000 94.0% and higher* For outstanding students across all programs in Arts, Science, and the Gerald Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems. Based on academic achievement. Renewable for four years at $3,000 per year.

Major Scholarships

To be eligible for the scholarships listed below, you must apply to StFX and submit a first term/semester grade 12 transcript before the March 1st deadline. Only students who have completed the scholarship profile on the StFX University Scholarship Site with an average* of 96% or higher (unless otherwise stated) will be considered.

Scholarship Value Details
President’s Scholarships $32,000 Recognizing those students who have achieved outstanding academic success. Renewable for four years at $8,000 per year. All students enrolling directly from high school who demonstrate the qualities and values honoured by StFX – notably leadership and dedication in service to others as well as academic achievement – are eligible.
International Baccalaureate Scholarships $28,000 Recognizing those students who have achieved outstanding academic success within the IB program. Renewable for four years at $7,000 per year.
Canadian Scholarships $24,000 Awarded based on academic achievement and the student’s province of origin. Renewable for four years at $6,000 per year.
Phillip W. Oland and J.P. McCarthy Scholarships $24,000 Awarded based on a nomination from the applicant’s high school as well as an interview process. Renewable for four years at $6,000 per year. Applicants must have a demonstrated history of leadership ability. Please see your high school guidance office. 
Harrison McCain Scholarship $16,000 Awarded to any high school student in Canada, with a recognized initiative to funding their own education, who possess strong leadership abilities. and in financial need. Renewable for four years at $4,000 per year. 
Nova Scotia Power Scholarship $1,500 Awarded to a Nova Scotia high school student accepted for full-time study in an undergraduate degree program. Student must be in their first year of study and have a minimum average of 85% from high school.  Renewable for four years at $1,500 per year. This award is based on academic achievement, community involvement, involvement in extracurricular activities and personal attributes. Daniel and Frances Anzelc Cordeau Scholarship $28,000 For students from Cape Breton entering a full-time undergraduate Bachelor or Arts program. Renewable for four years at $7,000 per year if student maintains a minimum average. Preference given to students active in their Catholic parish. Financial need may be taken into consideration. (Offered every 4 years, next deadline March 1, 2019)
StFX Alumni Association Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to a first year student accepted for full-time study in an undergraduate degree program. This award is based on academic achievement, community involvement, involvement in extracurricular activities and personal attributes.
Jeannine Deveau Scholarship $15,000 This award is available to Aboriginal Canadian and African Nova Scotian students who are entering a diploma or degree program at StFX directly from high school. Preference will be given to students from Mi’kmaw and African Nova Scotian communities. Students must demonstrate high school achievement, evidence of leadership and community involvement. This award is valued at $3,000 per year and is renewable for a maximum of five years; provided students achieve a minimum average.
Thomas J. Hayes & Family Scholarship $10,000 Entrance scholarships for Nova Scotia high school graduates from the African Nova Scotian Community who may not have the financial resources to attend St. Francis Xavier University. The award is valued at $2,500 per year and can be renewed for a maximum of four years; provided a student acheives a minimum average.
