Secondary Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A2)
An English language proficiency test is required for students whose first language is not English. If a student has completed a minimum 2 years of study at an institution with English as the language of instruction, an English proficiency test is not required.
Recognized English language proficiency tests:
Students studying in the Nova Scotia International Students Program (NSISP) with an average of 70% in Grade 12 English, or equivalent, from a Nova Scotian high school are not required to submit an English language proficiency exam.
Students who apply for admission and do not meet the minimum English language requirements can enroll in StFX’s EAP program. The program offers intermediate (Level 5) and advanced (Level 6) English for Academic Purposes courses to prepare students for undergraduate studies at StFX. Level 005
For students accepted with IELTS scores of 5.0 or 5.5 overall (no band below 4.5), this is the intermediate level of EAP @ STFX. Students will learn to read and write academic essays and develop skills in listening and speaking through presentations, debates, and discussions.
Level 006
For students accepted with IELTS scores of 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5), this is advanced level of EAP @ STFX. Students will learn to read and write academic essays and reports, carry out academic research, and develop skills in listening, note-taking, time-management, and effective study. Speaking ability will improve through presentations, debates, and discussions. * With the permission of the coordinator, students may take one additional academic course during their EAP course.
