LPN, Accelerated, and Post RN Nursing Admissions Info

LPN-BScN Pathway

Cape Breton University and St. Francis Xavier University have partnered on a new pathway for qualified LPNs to apply to B.Sc.N. programs and receive credit for practical nursing experience. The first class of LPN-B.Sc.N. students will begin study in September 2016.

LPN-B.Sc.N. pathway requirements:

  • Two year Diploma from Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). Graduated 2008 or later.
  • Grades-minimum 75% overall average in both years of the diploma program.
  • Total of 1800 hours work experience within the last two years (require a letter of verification from employer(s)).
  • Current LPN License
  • Applicants must also include a professional letter of reference and a letter of intent along with transcripts to complete the application.

Please note:  Admission to this program is competitive and possession of the minimum requirements does not ensure acceptance into the program

    BSc in Nursing - Accelerated 2 year option 

    The Accelerated 2 year option for nursing has a January start date and is available to transfer applicants who must have the following 30 credits prior to admission with a minimum grade of 65 in each of the mandatory courses and an overall average of 65 in the combined 30 university credits:

    • 6cr Human Anatomy and Physiology (or min 3cr each of Anatomy and Physiology) - Must have a lab component (Virtual labs are accepted)
    • 3cr Microbiology
    • 3cr English
    • 3cr Statistics
    • 15 credits of open electives
    • Successful completion of CASPer

    Please note: courses cannot be more than 10 years old. Preference will be given to those who have completed the majority of courses at the time of application.   Admission to this program is competitive and possession of the minimum requirements does not ensure acceptance into the program

    Admission Requirements

    Minimum requirements are:

    • A current RN registration
    • One-year clinical experience
    • High school certification. Applicants are considered if they have credit for five Grade XII university preparatory subjects (English, Mathematics, Chemistry, another science and one other subject), with no mark below 50 and a minimum average of 60.

    Meeting published minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
