StFX music grad wins Canadian Country Music award for guitar playing

StFX music grad Ryan Davidson continues to be recognized by the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA), winning another CCMA All-Star Award for his guitar playing skills.

The Canadian Country Music Association announced the winners in over 20 award categories on Sept. 12, 2015 at the CCMA Gala Dinner & Awards and the CCMA All-Star Band Awards at an event held in Halifax, NS. Mr. Davidson won the All-Star Band Award for guitar.
In 2012, Mr. Davidson of Edmonton, AB, who graduated from StFX in 2006 with an honours bachelor of music degree, jazz studies, performance major (jazz guitar), also picked up the CCMA guitarist of the year award.
Mr. Davidson also has a master’s in music degree from the University of North Texas.
“The StFX music program is one of the finest anywhere in the world,” he said in an interview at the time at that award. 
“(Music professor) Kevin Brunkhorst, my mentor and friend, was an inspiring performer and professor. His direction is directly responsible for the success I have had. The program taught me to work hard and remain focused. The lessons I learned there were invaluable. (Music faculty) Gene Smith, Paul Tynan, Terry O'Mahoney, and Tony Genge were also instrumental to my success and are some of the best musicians and professors anywhere.”
