Faculty and staff at StFX have once again been crowned the top fundraisers in the 4th Annual SPCA Coin Drive, raising $743 in the fundraiser that in total came in at $4,100.
StFX beat its own mark of $707.65 raised the year before.
“I honestly don’t know what we would do without your participation in this event and in the calendar sales,” SPCA treasurer Marlene Morell wrote to StFX organizers in thanking the university for its participation.
“We are lucky to have such socially conscious people interested in the welfare of the animals that we assist on a daily basis.”
The coin drive is the Antigonish SPCA’s main fundraiser for the program that helps people who can't afford to spay or neuter their pets. All the money raised in this campaign goes towards that program. Funds were collected around Antigonish, Port Hawkesbury and Canso.
Staff member Marcy Baker and faculty member Dr. Karen Brebner are the driving forces behind the event at StFX.
Dr. Brebner says the goal next year is to raise $1,000 from the StFX community, and volunteers are already thinking of ways they can help raise funds.
