On behalf of StFX President, Dr. Sean Riley, Academic Vice-President and Provost Dr. Mary McGillivray is pleased to announce that the University Librarian, Ms. Lynne Murphy, has agreed to a three-year renewable reappointment at StFX. Lynne Murphy has been the University Librarian since July 2004.
Previous to her tenure at StFX, she served as University Librarian at the University of Prince Edward Island. During her recent term at StFX, she has been involved in many initiatives both inside and outside the library. She has been active regionally in representing StFX interests as well as in collaborating in various national partnerships in the provision of services and collections to the benefit of faculty and students.
Within the library, she has facilitated change to the benefit of students through improvements to the physical environment and to the development of various services. During this period, the library has acquired unprecedented access to scholarly materials and improved access to resources generally.
Ms. Murphy has served as chair and on the executive for the Council of Atlantic University Libraries (CAUL) as well as on the Atlantic Scholarly Information Network (ASIN) as chair for the region. She has been active in providing reports and presentations regionally on change and challenges in academic libraries’ services. Her research interests are on the impact of disruptive technology on the academy and the resultant challenges and opportunities for academic libraries.
Ms. Murphy is well-known for her active engagement on a number of university committees including the Senate and the Academic Computing Committee. She is looking forward to finding and enacting creative solutions to the challenges that face the changing world of university libraries in her next term.
