St. Francis Xavier University has submitted a bid proposal to Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) to host the 2012 CIS Women’s Rugby Championship. CIS announced bid proposals today from 18 different universities to host 22 national championships over the next five years in various sports.

StFX was the lone university to bid on the 2012 rugby championship, although a decision will not be confirmed on hosting rights until the CIS bid selection committee meets during the week of June 21-25. The university has never hosted a CIS women’s rugby championship, though it has successfully hosted the CIS Women’s Ice Hockey Championship on three occasions in 2006, 2009 and most recently this past March, 2010. Should the bid be accepted, the 12-time AUS champion X-Women would gain automatic entry into the championship as the host team. The 2012 CIS Women’s Rugby Championship is currently scheduled for Nov. 1-4, 2012.
