Political science professor Yvon Grenier has been invited to give a public lecture at UCLA on May 17, 2010 on the topic of “The Writer and the State” in Latin America.
Dr. Grenier recently published (with literary critique Maarten van Delden) Gunshots at the Fiesta, Literature and Politics in Latin America (Vanderbilt University Press, 2009).
Dr. Grenier is also author of Guerre et pouvoir au Salvador (1994), The Emergence of Insurgency in El Salvador (1999), Art and Politics: Octavio Paz and the Pursuit of Freedom (2001; Spanish trans. in 2004), and Editor (selection of texts and introduction) of Octavio Paz, Sueo en libertad, escritos politicos (2001). He is currently writing a book on the politics of culture in post-Soviet Cuba.
