St. Francis Xavier University students will have the chance to network and connect with members of the StFX community, alumni, entrepreneurs and employers to talk about career opportunities and development at the second annual Making the Career Connection (MCC) to be held on campus Sept. 30, 2009.
The day-long event is presented by StFX’s Co-operative Education Program, Enterprise Resource Development (XEDC) and the Student Career Centre.
It includes a career fair, employer presentations, a faculty networking luncheon and an evening reception and dinner. Events will be held on campus in Bloomfield Centre and the Keating Millennium Centre from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m.
The event is a great chance for students to find potential career opportunities, notes Ashley Kowalewski of the Co-operative Education Program. “Laura Gay, a BBA student, found her co-op employer at the MCC dinner in 2007, Grant Thornton, and now is a new grad hire,” Kowalewski notes as one example. “While on work term she connected with previous co-op BBA grad, Celia Maas on the job and now they are co-workers and friends strengthening the X network.”
StFX grad Dean Hartman, founder of Nubody’s Fitness, and Laura Lee Langley, head of Communications Nova Scotia, are key note speakers at this year’s event.
