St. Francis Xavier University has received another multi-million dollar investment, this time a cornerstone gift for the soon-to-be established Brian Mulroney Institute for Government. Today, StFX President Dr. Kent MacDonald is pleased to announce Canadian business icon Ron Joyce, through The Joyce Foundation, has gifted $5 million to the future Mulroney Institute to be built on campus, the first academic centre in Canada dedicated to the study of government, Canada-U.S. relations, and global affairs for undergraduate students. "The Joyce Foundation is delighted to make this gift to St FX - recognized for its longstanding tradition of education, research, innovation and community service,” says Mr. Ron Joyce. “It is truly fitting that the Brian Mulroney Institute for Government be established here. It will be a rich source of learning and engagement on all matters that shape government, international relations and public policy. Student bursaries, made possible through this gift, celebrate the extraordinary contribution of The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney to our country." “We are extremely excited to announce this gift. This generous support will help today’s undergraduates receive the quality education in politics and policy needed to becoming Canadian leaders here and abroad,” added Dr. MacDonald “On behalf of the StFX community, I extend a sincere thank you to Ron Joyce and The Joyce Foundation for their commitment to inspiring and providing educational opportunities for our students.” “We are so pleased to have the support of a true Canadian visionary and icon in Mr. Joyce,” says Caroline Mulroney Lapham, Chair of the Campaign. “With his support, we take a giant leap towards creating a centre specifically designed to inspire the political and public policy leaders of tomorrow.” The Joyce Foundation is a private family foundation established by Order of Canada recipient and Tim Horton’s co-founder, Ron Joyce, well known for supporting child and youth development, particularly through The Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.
