    For Leah Beveridge and Andrea Flynn, it happened this year when the two second year honours biology and aquatic resources students took summer jobs as research assistants in the lab of biologist Dr. David Garbary.

    Probes to monitor soil-source greenhouse gas emission are poised to be launched around the world to help in the fight against climate change and rising atmospheric CO2 levels. The breakthrough technology is the brainchild of StFX Earth Sciences professor and researcher Dr. Dave Risk, his colleagues, and students from StFX's Environmental Science Research Centre.

    The Antigonish Review at St. Francis Xavier Universty has a grow-op, and UBC wants a part of it. Choosing from the best emerging writers in college or university, the Grow-Op features up-and-coming poets four times a year on their website, The Poet Grow-Op.

According to the head of recruitment for St. Francis Xavier University, selling the intangible, softer elements of academic life is pivotal for success. It is also the idea behind a unique initiative that has students abuzz.

    Class of 2014 receives warm welcome To StFX!

    A whopping 134 spirited upper class students – all similarly clad in can’t miss bright t-shirts – were out in full force as volunteer members of the Orientation committee, known as the O-Crew, to welcome new students and to help do their part to ensure the freshmen class started the year right.

    CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon will be coming to St. Francis Xavier University a few days in advance of the historic, first-ever CFL regular season game to be played in Atlantic Canada. The game, known as Scotiabank Touchdown Atlantic, will feature the Edmonton Eskimos and ‘home team’ Toronto Argonauts and is scheduled for Sunday, September 26 at 1 p.m. at Moncton Stadium in Moncton, New Brunswick.

    Upcoming writer-in-residencies for Anne Simpson

    Anne Simpson has an exciting year ahead. Simpson, a part-time English faculty member, will be the Writer-in-Residence at the University of Prince Edward Island from Sept. 19 - Oct. 2, 2010, then take up her role as the Writer-in-Residence at Dalhousie University from Jan. 10 through March 31, 2011.
