Each year, the highlight for many of our students is the excitement, emotion, fun and pageantry of convocation weekend. It’s the culmination of all the hard work they’ve put in and a salute to the new chapter they’re embarking on. St. Francis Xavier University is pleased to welcome nearly 1,000 new members to its alumni family when the Class of 2010 graduates in Spring Convocation ceremonies to be held at the Keating Centre on Sunday, May 2. The morning ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. while the afternoon convocation gets underway at 3 p.m.

On March 22nd, 2010, St. Francis Xavier University students made great strides in international relations when they had the opportunity to visit one of the world’s United Nations Agencies headquarters based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Three StFX human nutrition students were honoured with awards at the department‘s annual end of year banquet, held on March 26, 2010 at the Millennium Centre.

Congratulations to 11 StFX senior students who have collectively won $191,100 in post-graduate scholarships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). A celebration luncheon to toast the students – seven of whom received NSERC PSG awards and four recipients of SSHRC awards – was held in the Coady International Institute on April 13.

Medication safety in Nova Scotia was the prescription of the day when 129 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians converged in Halifax April 10 for a training session on SafetyNET-Rx. For the StFX and Dalhousie University faculty involved in this cross-disciplinary project, now helping 72 Nova Scotia pharmacies implement a continuous quality improvement program (CQI), the day marked a major milestone.

Colleen Glenn, an honours economics students from the Heatherton, NS area, received a pleasant surprise recently when she learned she won the cost of her X-Ring for participating in the X-Ring Survey.

Three StFX students have been awarded scholarships valued at 1,000 Euros to participate in a summer study program at the ESDES School of Management at the Universite de Lyon, in Lyon France. The school is one of StFX’s exchange partners.

The 1st Annual Sister Margaret MacDonell Lecture in Celtic Studies is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 16 in Immaculata Hall at 7:15 p.m. when Professor William Gillies of the University of Edinburgh and Harvard University delivers a lecture entitled, The Books of Clanranald: a Family History with a Difference.
