Career Options

Job opportunities for those with a background in Computer Science are virtually endless. They include work in the actuarial sciences, software engineering, technology development such as robotics, computer-aided vision and artificial intelligence, and forensic research. Recent employers of StFX Computer Science graduates include Statistics Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, banks, insurance companies, Shell, Nortel, IBM, Sobeys and Atlantic Lottery Corporation, to name but a few.

Many faculty members hold National Sciences and Engineering Research Council grants and are very active in research. Together, they provide an education in Computer Science that rivals all other Canadian universities—one that produces high-achievers who are well-suited to graduate studies, industry and education programs.

The First Year

In Computer Science, 100-level studies include an Introduction to Programming and Data Structures, which focuses on problem analysis, algorithm development, data representation and control structures.
