StFX is committed to the excellence of its research and teaching programs. Students witness the thrill of exploration and many find themselves working alongside their professors, gaining valuable first-hand experience - work that will give them competitive edge upon graduation. Student involvement in research is an integral and critical part of the student experience at StFX. Here, research is at the heart of a unique academic culture, in which student and faculty life is infused with original scholarship and hands-on inquiry. Faculty are involved in experimental research, reflective inquiry, and creative work, all of which is supported by a strong record of external funding.
StFX has a long tradition of research and education at the undergraduate level and the university supports a vigorous set of graduate programs in selected disciplines. The introduction of undergraduates to research will continue to be a major feature of research work in all disciplines. StFX faculty help to develop highly qualified graduates through extensive involvement of undergraduates in their research programs. For many students, this involvement begins in the summer following their first academic year, continues through other summers, and culminates in a senior project or honours thesis. With this background and experience, graduating students are exceptionally well prepared to begin graduate studies or professional programs.

StFX faculty members, highly respected experts in their fields, lead international-calibre research that makes important contributions to the future of Canada. Our professors bring cutting-edge knowledge from the field and lab directly into the classroom to spark discussion. Students witness the thrill of exploration and many find themselves working alongside their professors, gaining first-hand experience. StFX has seven Canada Research Chairs (CRCs) who play a leading role in reinforcing the research culture at the university. In the faculties of science, arts, education and business, research is a core part of the undergraduate student experience. There are approximately 50 active research programs on campus that hire students.
